Our sod is a tall fescue blend that consists of 80-90% turf-type tall fescue and 10-20% hybrid Kentucky Bluegrass. Improved drought tolerance and disease resistance of these newer varieties makes our tall fescue sod the choice of many installers for lower maintenance, and slightly shaded areas. Turf-type tall fescue has also become the choice for golf course roughs and non-irrigated athletic fields. It is suitable for moderate recreation and foot traffic areas exhibiting good initial wear recovery, especially in Spring and Fall when growth is rapid.
This sod is a cool-season grass, with medium to dark color, moderate density, and a more extensive root system than any other cool-season turf grass. It is a very good transition zone grass adapted to moderately cold winters and warm summers.
A good “tough-play” lawn that is recommended for a wide variety of uses, including residential and commercial landscapes, roadsides, parks, recreation areas, and sports fields. It prefers full sun and is moderately tolerant to shade. Of the cool-season grasses, only fine-leafed fescues rank higher in shade adaptation.
It has excellent drought resistance and is one of the best cool-season turf grasses with a fairly deep root system that helps avoid drought. When irrigation is withheld, it can go into summer dormancy with brown leaves. Upon the return of the moisture supply, it will green up again.
