Blue Switch Grass forms a columnar, clump-forming, warm season grass. Metallic blue foliage turns yellow in the Fall. Blooms are finely textured, pink-tinged, branched flower panicles. Seed plumes persist in winter, providing seeds for birds. It is native to western USA, naturalized in PA. Native grasses are an essential larval host for most banded skippers and most of the satyrs (butterflies).
